Hen Island Dive Charter

Hen and Chicken Islands have a general diving depth of up to 25 m / 82 ft and is suitable for all divers. Sail Rock provides greater depths for  more experienced divers. The average visibility is 10-20 metres and access to the dive site is by boat. Hen and Chicken Islands are common breeding grounds for schools of blue mao mao, sweep, trevally and silver drummer In the summer months, you will occasionally come across Kingfish as you descend these dramatic walls which drop down to boulders and gradually level out exposing cracks where you can find hidden crayfish and large yellow moray eels. There are also large kelp covered boulders that provide refuge for goatfish, red moki and demoiselles.

If you are the hunter gatherer type you can also try your hand at catching crays and taking a feed home for the family. 

You can SAVE money if you have your own gear, which you can purchase directly from our online store as we have some GREAT offers. If you prefer you can come to the shop and get some professional advice so we can help set you up for the
future.

To join one of our charters, you must have dived within the last 12 months – contact us if you need a refresher course.

Why not add on your Marine Ecology, Fish Identification, Shark Ecology or Manta & Rays Ecology course! We offer ecology courses for only $60 as an add on to your dive experience. Contact us directly after booking your charter to sign up!

Vessel berthage locations (pick-up/drop-off) points are not included in the cost. If you need transport please ask the Dive Team at your own expense.

Sometimes our activities may have to be rescheduled due to situations outside of our control, such as poor weather. Please note we reschedule in such situations, as described in our terms and conditions.

Please note that NZ Diving will offer alternate dates if conditions do not allow for safe travel or if minimum numbers are not met. In case of a cancellation we will reschedule the charter, we can put you on a different dive charter, you can use the amount paid as credit, transfer the credit to a different person or help with a letter for your travel insurance. Overseas participants are advised to carry travel insurance in case rescheduling is unsuitable.

All participants must be diving certified to dive on a charter or undergoing a diving course with New Zealand Diving Limited.

All participants must be able to swim a minimum of 200m, unassisted.
